Tumours of the Urinary Apparatus in Workers Exposed to Asbestos

چکیده
Renal excretion is one of the main elimination pathways for the toxic and carcinogenic chemical agents and metabolites to which man may be exposed. The urinary system is naturally often a target of such agents, the kidney being the filter in which they may be trapped, and the bladder a place where they may linger for a long time before being excreted. The likelihood that asbestos has a carcinogenic effect on urinary tract tissues is supported by many studies which have shown the presence of asbestos fibre in the urine, caused by the occasional migration of such fibres from the gastro-intestinal wall to the bloodstream then into the urinary pathways (1-4). Asbestos formations have been detected in the kidneys and increased risk of kidney tumours was noted among miners from the Quebec asbestos mine (5). The presence of asbestos fibres in the urine both of occupationally exposed subjects (68) and of people who had drunk water contaminated

Evaluation of cellular immunity in patients with asbestosis and workers exposed to asbestos
Introduction: A large number of studies have proved a relationship between maligant mesothelioma and workers exposed to asbestos. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the degree of immunocompetence of the asbestos workers in comparison with non asbestos workers. Methods and materials: In this study 7 asbestotic patients, 73 workers exposed to asbestos and 59 controls from 2 Farsit fact...

Introduction: Smoking is one of the main risk factors in various diseases of different systems of the body, including the respiratory system and asbestosis is pulmonary fibrosis due to asbestos inhalation. Aim: This investigation evaluates the effects of smoking on the respiratory function and aggravation of respiratory complications in asbestos workers. This study was performed in August, 20...
متن کاملMortality and cancer incidence in chloralkali workers exposed to inorganic mercury.
Mortality and cancer incidence were studied in men exposed to inorganic mercury at eight Swedish chloralkali plants where individual biological monitoring data were available. Urinary mercury excretion has declined from about 200 micrograms/l during the 1950s to less than 50 micrograms/l today. These workers had also been exposed to chlorine and static magnetic fields. At some of the plants the...

Background and aims : Asbestos components are one of the most hazardous air pollutants that can cause a number of serious diseases in humanincluding asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma . The main goal of this research was the assessment of occupational exposure effects with Asbestos fibers on pulmonary function and lung capacity disorders in worker of an Asbestos- cement pipe and plate m...
متن کاملUrinary 8-oxo-7, 8-dihydro-2'-deoxyguanosine and biopyrrins levels among construction workers with asbestos exposure history.
It has been suggested that oxidative stress is associated with the cancers caused by asbestos. Since construction workers are sometimes exposed to low levels of asbestos, we investigated whether oxidative stress was elevated in construction workers who had been exposed to low levels of asbestos. The subjects were 48 Japanese construction workers. The defined asbestos-exposed group consisted of ...
